Angeleno Students at the 2019 American Open

We are so proud of how so many of our students performed at the prestigious American Open held in Costa Mesa, CA November 28 – December 1, 2019 even though it was a very long drive each day back and forth for so many participants.
Traditionally it is one of the largest events of the year in the Southern California, attracting a huge crowd that competes in dozen of sections, sub-sections and varying time controls.

We will just mention few that either won or placed in the top 3 in their respective sections or performed extremely well.

Nathan Thomas: Varsity K-3 Champion with a perfect score of 5 out of 5!

Zion Qu: 3rd place in 4th Grade Booster with a wonderful 9.5 out of 12 score.

Yash and Tanish Vora: both placing only half a point behind the tournament winners in the prestigious Under 2000 section and both reaching and breaking the coveted 1860 USCF barrier and gaining more than 215 rating points together.

We hope to share more success stories in hopes of inspiring new young talent to study and compete more.
